The effective application of composites in component design has a significant impact on a company's ability to be successful. Efficient design and manufacture of composite components is substantially a "black art", requiring the application of experienced engineers in many
specialised displines. This normally yields long design and manufacture cycle times which put composite components on the "critical path". The industry is in need of software tools which will automate the creation of engineering data required to drive the manufacturing process.
